As a reminder school breakfast and lunch are free for all students!

No Lunch will be served on October 23rd for the noon dismissal.

Halloween

On Thursday, October 31st, Lincoln students will observe Halloween. The students at Lincoln School will parade in their costumes beginning at 2:15 pm along Bennett Ave.

Prior to the parade classrooms will have their Halloween parties.

After parading in their costumes, they will return to their classrooms.

Parents in attendance may sign their child out following the parade. Students not signed out will remain in their classroom until the usual dismissal time.

Costume guidelines:

  • Students should not wear their costumes to school.

  • There will be time to change into costumes prior to the

    parade.

  • Please be sure that costumes do not depict violence.

  • No play knives, guns, sharp objects, and no gory costumes depicting blood or violence.

    Students who do

    not follow these guidelines will not be allowed to

    participate in the parade.

Fire and Safety Drills

We have been conducting and will continue to conduct safety drills throughout the school year.

We have conducted fire, severe weather, lockdown and bus safety drills in September and will continue fire drills into October.

Attendance Reminders

Regular attendance at school is critical for student success in the classroom. Please make sure that if your child is going to be absent to contact the school office.

If you know that your child will miss school ahead of time, please communicate with your child’s teacher to have work sent home in advance.

Please make every effort to try and schedule appointments outside of school hours.

Preschool

We currently have openings for the 2024-2025 school year. If your child is at least 3 years of age or turns 3 this school year they are eligible.

Physical Examination & immunizations: Students in grades K & 6 must submit proof of physical examination and immunizations no later than October 15, 2024 to remain in attendance.

Dental Clinic: Orland Park Dental Services will be coming to OPS on 11/1 and 11/4! Eligible students will receive a cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants if needed. Sealants are a protective coating on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. This program is offered for all grades, but the state requires K, 2nd, & 6th graders to have a mandatory dental exam prior to May 15, 2025. This dental exam will fulfill this requirement. Forms have been sent home with your students. Please return them to school by Monday, September 30 if you would like your child to participate.

Vision examinations: All kindergarten students are required to submit proof of a vision examination.

District Updates

Parents Right to Know: In accordance with the ESEA Section 1111(h)(6) Parents Right to Know, the Oglesby School District is notifying every parent in a Title I school that you have the right and may request information regarding the qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher.

This information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s teachers including at a minimum the following:

1. Whether the teacher has met state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.

2. Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other professional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria have been waived.

3. The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of certification or degree.

4. Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

If at any time your child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher not highly qualified, the school will notify you.
